Behind scenes

This coffee shop is a gem near the Fischmarkt. This is the Surf Shop Roastery, a place that not only sells coffee, but also delicious ice cream and – as its name suggests – is a small coffee roastery. You just do not drink coffee, you have a sensory experience. What makes this place so interesting is that its products are ethical and respectful with the producers. In addition, they experiment with new and unique flavors, which gives a special extra something to the products they offer.

We tried 2 different coffees, one from Ethiopia and one from Costa Rica

We tried 2 different coffees, one from Ethiopia and one from Costa Rica

On the coffee side, it is of the highest quality. Different types of coffee are offered with notes from small farms and the supplier in Norway is responsible for controlling the coffee process from the farmer, drying and even shipping. It is intended to assist local farms in the production.

We tried 2 varieties of coffee to be able to compare them, by the way. We tasted the Diima Gigessa from Ethiopia (for me it was the best), with notes of strawberry, blackberry, pineapple and fruit and a very sweet coffee. The other was a Costa Rican coffee: Higuerones Libertad with a little more acidity and soft notes of melon.

Coffee Beans: Etiopía, Costa Rica, Colombia, Burundi, Brasil…

Ice cream is a won-der-ful, really! Not only do they have unique flavors like matcha, banana-basil, tonka, laktirz, black sesame or cinnamon. All ice creams are vegan and made with 100% natural ingredients (many of them brought directly from local farms in Japan). WHAT!?

I also tried Sakura’s tea, a tea traditionally drunk to celebrate new beginnings. This tea is particularly beautiful and different, it comes in a mixture of sea salt and vinegar so it is first soaked for a few minutes in warm water and then changed to a glass of water at 90C. This gives it a peculiar salty taste that mixed with the tea makes it unique.

The decoration is an organic, vintage and surfer vibe mix

Surfer coffee roastery

The perfect place to enjoy good coffee and the best company

The place has a minimalist decoration with a surfer/vintage style and a window that gives an extra light. My experience there couldn’t have been better, everyone was extremely kind to me and told me a little more about the store, and most importantly you can see the passion for what they do.
